M4 Buying Guide.

Post by Wyat Earp on Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:48 pm

While I wrote most of this for Sean, it still applies to anyone looking to buy a M4. Hope you enjoy.
Hey Sean, my email is really messed up, and I can't rely or compose a new email, so I'll do it on NTA.
Now, your first part of the question about the new G4 Series: I seem to get the impression that they are very solidly constructed guns. When I held the Sportline 416, the thing that got me was not the plastic body, it was the cheap plastic rails. With the G4 series, the rails are metal. I would recommend them as a good, less costly alternative. Now, about cost. I say, don't spend more the $180, if your budget is $250. You will want accessories, such as midcaps, batteries, and maybe sights. As you know, GI has free shipping for orders over $100, so that you won't have to worry about. Now, here are some reviews that i've found on the G4 series that I think may be helpful.

Hope these help. Some of the youtube ones are a little noobish, but they get the point across.

Now, on to the second part. If not a G4, then what? Well Sean, that's a very good question! There are currently a plethora of M4's on the market, and choosing the right one takes time and patience. Some of the best ones I've been hearing good things about are the new Echo 1 M4's:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=5674 . This gun was thoroughly reviewed on Airsoftology, episode 14. Check it out. However, since I know you to well, here's a link to very well written and in-depth review: http://www.mechboxmechanic.com/?p=542 . It's my opinion that in the $200-$250 price bracket, this is THE BEST M4 on the market. Everything about this gun screams perfection. Now onto, so other brands.
The full metal Classic Army sportline comes in at around $210: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=4730 . It may not have the best internals, but they can be made to work well. Reviews are a little sparse, but check out youtube and you should find something useful.
Next, are some of the SRC Sportline M4's. These are considered MPEGS, but are also reliable. Here's a review from ASR: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/s ... 286&cat=73 , and another: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/s ... 181&cat=73 . These guns are supposed to be pretty good and are worth a looksy. That about does it for new guns, now onto used guns.
Do to my track record, and I don't really recommend buying used. However, with the current market, there are some extremely good deals floating around, just waiting to be pounced on by someone with cash. Here are a few of such deals:
CA M15A4: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 4025/cat/2
CA CQB Compact: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 4018/cat/2
CA M15A4: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 4013/cat/2
G&P M4 and CA M4: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 3987/cat/2
KWA M4 (local): http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 1216856254
CA M15A4: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 3929/cat/2
(Just for you Sean) VFC 416: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/classifie ... 3744/cat/2
That's about it at the moment on ASR. However, great deals come up all the time there, so keep checking.
Now, on NTA:
CA M4: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5901
KWA CQB ( good deal): viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5816
CA M4: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5015
CA M15AR CQB: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5402
That's about it for recent NTA posts. The other place to check is airsoft-barracks. They have tons of stuff, however, they are currently having some problems in the sale section of the site, but I still recommend checking it out.

I hope this helped you out. It is probably as thorough as I could make it. Sorry that your leaving, but we will still find time to sling plastic.
